First MARS Tanker handed over to MoD UK

As pre-announced in December last year, the Protocol of AOC - Acceptance Off Contract was signed for RFA TIDESPRING by Mr. David Farmer - Head of New Building - Ministry of Defence UK and Mr. I.S. Yoon - Director &Head of Naval &Special Ship Business Management Unit - DSME at 11:00 KST on the 12th of January 2017.
These highly sophisticated vessels are the result of a successful combination of the most advanced marine technology with efficient and vanguard shipbuilding design, integrating the ultimate developments of military science and marine automation systems.
SeaQuest has been engaged in this challenging project since 2013, overseeing the entire construction program, from steel cutting to completion, standing at the forefront together with the Client, MoD UK, and actively participating to each step of the construction process.
SeaQuest’s skilled team of marine engineers and naval architects, appropriately selected to fulfil the specific requirements of all involved disciplines, performed the supervision and surveillance jobs under the directives of Mr. Jan Andersson - Managing Director & Project Manager of SeaQuest, during all phases of the construction and testing of the ships, allowing the achievement of outstanding results in terms of ship’s performance and shipboard systems functionality during Factory, Harbour and Sea Acceptance Tests.
Despite a certain delay accumulated from the original planning, the signing of the AOC of the first ship of the series represents a great milestone, which was possible to be achieved only thanks to the excellent collaboration and superb co-operation of all involved parties.
Therefore, we wish to take this opportunity to thank our Client - MoD UK- with their site team of officers and engineers headed by Capt. Jim Collins - DES Ships CSS Superintendent, and all our industrial partners namely DSME, BMT Group, Lloyd’s Register, Frazer–Nash, Isherwoods and A&P for their great support during the construction of this “piece of high-tech”- RFA TIDESPRING.
We are honored to have taken part in this grandiose new building program and are extremely proud to be associated with this majestic accomplishment, wishing all the best also for the remaining ships of the series and looking forward to consolidating our business partnerships with MoD UK for the years to come.

SeaQuest performance in 2016

SeaQuest’s reputation of rising to the challenge, thriving in adverse market conditions and charting new waters in turbulent times has continued. Against the backdrop of very poor shipping and offshore markets which have drastically affected new orders, SeaQuest’s marine project management team has done better than just stay afloat, we moved full steam ahead and in the course of 2016 delivered a remarkable 18 high-quality vessels to their proud owners.
The start of 2016 saw the seamless progression of a massive new building project of 13 sophisticated Very Large LPG carriers, all delivered within a timeframe of fewer than 19 months from two of the largest shipyards in South Korea. The project was 100% incident-free and achieved within the stipulated budget, and represents one of the most challenging and complex new building projects taken on by both our company and the shipyards.
In 2016 we undertook challenging projects as varied as the construction of VLCCs, Suezmax 160k product carriers with coated cargo tanks, 50k IMO Class II product chemical carriers, Military Afloat Reach and Sustainability (MARS) tankers for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) on behalf of the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MOD), as well as a logistic support vessel for the Norwegian Navy (NDMA). The vast variety and complexity of the projects, handled by our team of professionals, is noteworthy and unmatched in the marine project management sector.
2016 closed with the naming ceremony celebration of RFA Tiderace, the second in the series of four MARS tankers, ordered by the UK’s MOD at DSME, and due to enter service in the RFA from 2017.
This year we also achieved the technical commissioning and completion of comprehensive & confirmative sea trials of the first MARS tanker Tidespring, which was a significant milestone, not only for SeaQuest but also for the UK’s DSME and MOD. This success was achieved through the collaboration and co-operation of all parties involved, through the hard work of SeaQuest’s management team, under the supervision of managing director Jan Andersson, and in close collaboration with MOD project team.
SeaQuest also renewed its ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System certification, whilst upgrading to ISO 9001:2015 is underway.
Against the dark and gloomy forecasts and discouraging projections of maritime market analysts, SeaQuest’s marketing strategy has enabled us to maintain a healthy order book, securing, so far, a portfolio of 14 vessels to be delivered in 2017 and three in 2018, with several other projects still under negotiation.
We look forward to another strong year for SeaQuest, working with shipyards to keep our clients’ complex projects on time and on budget.
First LR3 Product Tanker delivered

Arab Maritime Petroleum Transport Company (AMPTC) has just taken delivery of M/T Star Energy, the first of two LR3 Product Carriers built by the Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Samho (HSHI) under the supervision of SeaQuest.
It was a breakthrough by AMPTC the introduction on the market of these vessels (159,000 DWT with epoxy-coated tanks suitable to carry clean petroleum products) and SeaQuest had a crucial role in the project, attending negotiation of contractual specifications and makers list and carrying out the plan approval in conjunction with owner’s technical department.
The careful new building supervision of our personnel strongly contributed to achieving the on-time and flawless delivery of Star Energy, despite the coating of such extended cargo tanks was a yard’s premiere and definitely a challenging task for all parties involved.
Our site team remains in Samho yard following the construction of Star Energy’s sister vessel, whose delivery is scheduled later on in this Autumn.
VLCC project completed

The final highlight of 1.5 year work of SeaQuest new building supervision team at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), Gunsan production yard, was successfully accomplished with the delivery of the fourth and last VLCC to her Singaporean Owners.
As usual, our personnel has been working to ensure the best quality possible in the construction, proactively cooperating with yard project managers, workforce, subcontractors, class surveyors and Owners' technical department.
